چکیده

Lots of objects in computer graphics applications are represented by surfaces. It works very well for objects of simple topology, but can get prohibitively expensive for objects with complex small-scale geometrical details. Volumetric textures aligned with a surface can be used to add topologically complex geometric details to an object, while retaining an underlying simple surface structure. The simple surface structure provides great controllability on the overall shape of the model, and volumetric textures handle geometric details and topological changes efficiently. Adding a volumetric texture to a surface requires more than a conventional twodimensional parameterization: a part of the space surrounding the surface has to be parameterized. Another problem with using volumetric textures for adding geometric detail is the difficulty of the rendering of implicitly represented surfaces, especially when they are changed interactively. We introduce thick surfaces to represent objects with topologically complex geometric details. A thick surface consists of three components. First, a base mesh of simple structure is used to approximate the overall shape of the object. Second, a layer of space along the base mesh is parameterized. We define the layer of space as a shell, which covers the geometric details of the object. Third, volumetric textures of

Interactive modeling of complex geometric details based on empirical mode decomposition for multi-scale 3D shapes

In this paper we develop an interactive modeling system for complex geometric details transformation based on empirical mode decomposition (EMD) on multi-scale 3D shapes. Given two models, we aim to transfer geometric details fromonemodel to another one in an interactivemanner. Taking full advantages of the multi-scale representation computed via EMD, different-scale geometric details can be tr...

Hierarchical D-NURBS Surfaces and Their Physics-Based Sculpting

In this paper, we present Hierarchical D-NURBS as a new shape modeling representation that generalizes powerful, physics-based D-NURBS for interactive geometric design. Our Hierarchical D-NURBS can be viewed as a collection of standard D-NURBS finite elements, organized hierarchically in a tree structure and subject to continuity constraints across the shared boundaries of adjacent D-NURBS elem...

Geometric Details on Skeleton-based Implicit Surfaces

We present a modeling technique to enhance implicit surfaces with procedural geometric details. The details are based on Gabor noise, which enables us to seamlessly handle anisotropy. The orientation of details can be defined with respect to the orientation of the main shape features, which reduces the amount of user input. The method extends to complex details that are tilted with respect to t...

Solving the \nearest Point on Object" Problem Using Recursive Subdivision Solving the \nearest Point on Object" Problem Using Recursive Subdivision

Finding the nearest point on a given 2D or 3D object computation is a problem that arises in many computer graphics applications, such as interactive modeling, rendering of implicit surfaces or collision detection. Unfortunately, for objects with complex geometry such as curves or surfaces, the computation cost becomes prohibitive as a minimization process acting in multiple dimensions has to b...
